Herndon, VA, September 19, 2017) – During its annual Business Meeting on September 13 in Houston, Texas the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) installed a new Secretary, Treasurer and four new Directors.

James Barnes, Occupational Safety and Health Training Professional, IACET Treasurer
Jim hails from Schaumburg, Illinois and has been employed by headquarters installations for the U.S Department of Labor (DOL) and the U.S. Postal Service in various functional areas, with increased levels of responsibility. Jim currently directs agency-wide talent management initiatives, including succession planning and executive development programs, and provides input on human resources policy and program issues. He previously served as director of the Office of Training Programs and Administration for OSHA, where he was responsible for the OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Centers Program, a national network of OSHA training sites; the OSHA Outreach Training Program, which trains workers in the basics of occupational safety and health; and the Susan Harwood Training Grants Program, which awards grants to nonprofit organizations to provide safety and health training for employers and workers. These programs combined to train more than 900,000 learners annually.

Sumi Sankran-Deal, Training Manager at Power Engineers, IACET Secretary
Sumi is a seasoned human resources and training specialist with over 20 years of experience in leadership development, learning management systems development, strategic planning, and project management. She is passionate about helping others learn and also helping organizations build and deliver high-quality training programs. Sumi has worked with IACET-accredited organizations for over 10 years and joined IACET’s Council on Standards Development in 2016. In her free time, she spends time with her husband and son at their home in Hailey, Idaho.

Debbie Friedman, Director of Organizational Learning, Right at Home - Director

Debbie has over 14 years of training and development experience. She has spent time coaching managers to enhance employee performance. Debbie has designed, developed and facilitated training globally, focusing primarily in leadership development, negotiation and emotional intelligence. In her spare time, Debbie facilitates training for a local human resources certification preparatory course.  Most recently, she developed training focused on person-centered care for individuals with dementia and cognitive decline for Right at Home.

Marie Martin, HES Technical Learning Manager, Chevron - Director

Marie has focused her career on the intersection of worker technical development, safety and risk management in the energy sector. She is both a Certified Training and Development Professional and a Certified Safety Professional with a BS degree from LSU. Additional designations include Associate of Risk Management, Associate of Loss Control Management and ASSE Executive Program in Safety Management Certificate. Marie has published in Professional Safety Journal of the American Society of Safety Engineers and has been a speaker at industry and professional conferences. She currently leads Chevron's development efforts for their health, environment and safety professionals globally as Technical Learning Manager.

Kristopher Newbauer, Director of People and Talent, Rotary Internnational - Director

Kristopher Newbauer, EdM, MHRM, SPHR, CPLP, CPT is Director of People & Talent (HR) at Rotary International, the world's oldest—and one of the largest—humanitarian service club organizations in the world. Mr. Newbauer holds a Masters of Education (EdM) in Global Human Resource Development from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Masters of Human Resource Management (MHRM). He holds certificates in human resources from Cornell University, DePaul University, and the American Management Association. Newbauer serves on the adjunct faculty in the Department of Education Policy, Organization and Leadership in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
