IACET Installs New Chairman, Treasurer and Directors

Reston, VA, October 10, 2017) – During its annual Business Meeting on October 5 in Los Angeles, California, the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) installed a new Chairman of the Board of Directors, a new Treasurer and three new Directors.

Peter Finn, Chief Learning Officer at the Society of Women Engineers, Chairman of the IACET Board of Directors

Peter oversees the development of leadership and career development education at the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) which is a not for profit organization focused on the advancement of women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) with over 23,00 members representing a diversity of industries and engineering disciplines. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Northwestern University in the School of Education and Social Policy. Peter has designed and managed many projects for a diverse set of organizations including non-profits; associations; educational institutions and corporations. Prior to his current role, Peter served as the director of education at the Goldin Institute, a Chicago based non-profit that provides training and consultative support to NGOs. Peter received a MS in Learning and Organizational Change at Northwestern University with a specific focus in knowledge management systems.

James Barnes, Senior Advisor in the Office of Assistance Secretary for the Department of Labor – OSHA, IACET Treasurer
Jim hails from Schaumburg, Illinois and has been employed by headquarters installations for the U.S Department of Labor (DOL) and the U.S. Postal Service in various functional areas, with increased levels of responsibility. Jim currently directs agency-wide talent management initiatives, including succession planning and executive development programs, and provides input on human resources policy and program issues. He previously served as director of the Office of Training Programs and Administration for OSHA, where he was responsible for the OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Centers Program, a national network of OSHA training sites; the OSHA Outreach Training Program, which trains workers in the basics of occupational safety and health; and the Susan Harwood Training Grants Program, which awards grants to nonprofit organizations to provide safety and health training for employers and workers. These programs combined to train more than 900,000 learners annually.

Sumi Sankran-Deal, Training Manager at Power Engineers, IACET Board Member
Sumi is a seasoned human resources and training specialist with over 20 years of experience in leadership development, learning management systems development, strategic planning, and project management. She is passionate about helping others learn and also helping organizations build and deliver high-quality training programs. Sumi has worked with IACET-accredited organizations for over 10 years and joined IACET’s Council on Standards Development in 2016. In her free time, she spends time with her husband and son at their home in Hailey, Idaho.

Leigha Jansen, Ed.D, Director of Educational Technology at Continued, IACET Board Member
Dr. Jansen is a seasoned professional in the area of adult learning and educational technology.  In addition to her role as Director of Educational Technology at Continued, she serves as an adjunct faculty member at Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota where she teaches research methodology, strategic communications, and leadership.  Dr. Jansen has also served on the IACET Communications Taskforce and received her Doctorate of Education in Instructional Technology and Distance Education from Nova Southeastern University.

William Wallace, Ph.D., Army Staff College, IACET Board Member
Dr. Wallace has more than 37 years of experience and a unique blend of abilities in business (for and not-for profit), continuing education and training, operational and strategic level management skills and contacts, combined with expertise in curriculum and training development, threat and risk assessment and mitigation, safety, and applying best practices to everyday government, non-government and academic operations. As a consultant, William has over 14 years of government and international experience exploiting capabilities such as autonomy, diversity, technology, structure and key resources at international, federal, state, and local levels, as well as designing accreditation standards and programs. Education accomplishments include a Doctorate of Philosophy in Leadership and Organizational Change, Masters in Business Administration/Aviation, and Bachelors in Adult Learning and Technology and William is the published author of "Ethics: Do The Right Thing".
